I start with steel plates (pictured above) or copper plates.
Chemicals applied to the metal look like water. The colors start appearing and changing as the metal is heated.
Colors are affected by the length of time the torch is held on an area, the distance between the torch and the plate, the strength of the chemicals and the combination of chemicals.
Complicating the process, some chemicals burn faster than other ones.
